Welcome to My Life, Learning and Friends Page! So glad you have stopped by to sample what all I have come up with. This is my first try at this kind of thing, so bear with me as I grow this site!
WHO AM I?
When I finally retired completely (no part-time job even), I found out that I still needed to supplement my income somehow. I did not want to go back to a job where I had to leave home and did not give me the freedom to participate in a Bible study, in church choir practice and handbell practice, and be a Shepherd at Good News Club (I’ll tell you about this shortly)! So, I was roaming around the Internet one day and came across an advertisement for a job I could do from home, set my own hours AND make some money!!! This is just what I was dreaming about! So I checked it out.
WHAT I DECIDED TO DO:
This was a whole new world for me. I was a little bit hesitant, but the benefits seemed to outweigh the negatives. My brain still functions and I decided Why Not learn something new! So I took the plunge and Here I Am!
The main attraction (besides making some money) was that I would have a Mentor with me throughout this journey of learning a new software program and what it takes to “get started” and beyond. For a very small charge (like $49), the company would build me a website wih the basic building blocks in place for me to get started. If you have ever looked into building a website, you know that is not easy and can be expensive. My site was ready in only a few days so I started familiarizing myself with what was there and how it worked.
My site had categories with content pages, pictures and some things I knew nothing about. My wonderful Mentor began helping me learn the new word processing program so I could edit the “boiler plate” documents in each category. Now, I have done some writing; back in high school I was the editor of our school newspaper. But, that was many, many years ago. I was a legal secretary for most of my career where I did very little creative writing (letters to clients mostly). So this editing was definitely going to challenge my brain cells! I needed to put the texts in “my own words”.
WOW! That has been a challenge. Did you know there is a program you can use to check for plagiarism? That was new to me but so glad it was available to check each page when the editiing was finished.
Why am I working so hard to finish these pages, you ask? The Goal is to submit this website to Google and hopefully be approved so they will somehow or another show ads on my pages for merchants they advertise for. When you are looking at a page on this site, you will see ads pop up.
If you are curious about that ad, you can click on it and learn what it’s about. Just by clicking on that advertisement, I might earn a small commission. If you want to purchase something from that advertiser, I will earn a commission on your purchase! Your purchase will be sent to you by that vendor; I do not have anything to do with that. WOW! So click on as many ads as your little heart desires! And that is so Great. Not like selling on eBay, Amazon,Vinted or Poshmark.
So there you have the whys and wherefors as to how I created this website. There are other options for earning income with this company which I won’t go into detail about here. You will see links on several content pages or you can simply Search in the space to the right for “PBS“. Now that my content editing is hopefully finished, I will move on to posting ads online for some of the products a partner company allows us to market. You will find information about those products under the “Beauty and Cosmetics” and “Health and Fitness” tabs. There will be a link on each content page if you want to make a purchase. (They are wonderful products!)
We are all blessed to live on this beautiful planet. With that comes the ability to work toward our goals. Sometimes, as the very old saying goes, “A blind hog sometimes finds an acorn”. WHAT IS IT? It is my My Life Learning and Friends Passion:
CEF® (CHILD EVANGELISM FELLOWSHIP) is a Bible-centered, interdenominational, worldwide organization, composed of born-again believers whose purpose and mission are to evangelize boys and girls with the Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ, disciple them in the Word of God and establish them in a Bible-believing church for Christian living.
The Good News Club and 5-Day Club ministries take place in neighborhood settings such as homes, backyards, schools and community centers all over the world. These fast-paced, one to one and one-half hour programs are designed to bring the Gospel of Christ to children on their level in their environment. This literature is written by very creative members of the CEF organization.
Each week an exciting Bible lesson using colorful materials from CEF is presented. Each club includes a clear presentation of the Gospel and an opportunity for children to trust the Lord Jesus as Savior. Every club also includes strong discipleship training to build character and strengthen moral and spiritual growth. All children are encouraged to attend a local church. In order to attend an after-school Good News Club, permission is required from each child’s parent or guardian.
A Usual Afternoon At Our Good News Club:
I currently work with first to fifth graders at an elementary school in my area. We workers (there are currently 7 of us; we will gladly welcome more volunteeers!) are called “Shepherds” because that is what we are doing with this “flock” of children (our group has been historically averaging 25-35 children).
At the end of their school day, the children are happy, sad, wired up, you name it, when they come in the classsroom we are using for “large group”. First thing is to shed those back packs and get their name tags.
Shepherds gather their flocks and head to “small group” classrooms. The children, of course, sit down and start jabbering (as children tend to do!). In order to “earn” their refreshment, each child has a Prayer Request form they can use to ask for prayer for a family member, pet, friend, or whatever is on their mind. (It is eye opening that many children at the beginning of GNC do not know what prayer is or how to pray. If we are successful as Shepherds, they will know when they leave in the spring!) These requests are shared via the Internet (they are not shared with the world) to our Shepherd group so we can pray for each one.)
As the children are eating, we begin to work on the Bible verse for that day. We hope they can memorize it and be able to repeat it when we go back to “large group”. We also tell them an inspirational story, ask questions on a topic relevant to their lives or have a craft they can complete. (When I was absent for several weeks, my sweet children made Get Well cards for me! I was so moved by their drawings and get well wishes! And I will keep them!)
Then back to the large assembly room. We sing a song or two with hand motions and various physical movements that hopefully will burn off some of their energy. We review our “UPs Rules”: Sit Up, Look Up, Hand Up, Listen Up and Zip Up. (We must have some discipline, right?)
Next is working on the Bible verse for that day (the same one we worked on in Small Group). A Shepherd will break the verse down and explain each section so the children can understand what it is saying or talking about. This verse will also relate to the Bible story they will listen to shortly. The children are encouraged to learn the verse; if they can repeat it from memory in Small Group the next week, they receive a small prize.
The Bible story is next. For children that attend church, they may be familiar with the stories. The stories were chosen along a story line that can cotinue for five sessions.This segment of GNC is about 30 minutes. My group is so blessed to have a Shepherd that brings the story to life with: her voice, costumes and various props to demonstrate exactly what is happening.
She is such a blessing to our Shepherd Team!!! When she finishes, she offers any children that are interested in talking with her about giving their life to Christ to go to a quiet place outside the Large Group room with another Shepherd. (No child is alone with a Shepherd; 2 Shepherds must be present, even when going to the bathroom!)
Depending on how “on-schedule” we are, we might either sing another song so the children can stand and move around or go to the Missionary Story. This is about an actual person, how they decided to become a missionary and what life was like when they actually arrived at their mission location. The children are usually mesmerized! To keep the children’s interest piqued, the story stops at a critial point to be continued the next week.
Now is the fun part: Bible story recap game. The children are divided into two teams to answer questions about the Bible story. This is normally rousing fun for the children. And the Shepherds are almost always pleasantly surprised by the knowledge the children absorbed about that particular story!
And, believe it or not, it’s time to get backpacks to go quietly (we hope) to the cafeteria and await the arrival of their rides home. Try to believe that all this is accomplished in an hour or hour and a half! With 15 to 125 children from age 5 to 11! Oh, my! The Shepherds are tired when the last child is out the door, but it is such a good tired!
